Fortunately for the environment and animals, we are increasingly opting for meat substitutes. Yet the vegetarian burgers in the supermarket are not always the best choice, as unfortunately they often contain unhealthy aromatic substances, colourings and flavourings, fillers and added sugars. Did you know that a veggie burger is actually very easy to make yourself and this version is really very tasty? Plus, you know exactly what’s gone into it.
INGREDIENTS (6 burgers)
250 grams of cooked black beans
100 grams of quinoa
50 grams of oatmeal
1 clove of garlic
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tsp paprika powder
1 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp cumin
½ tbsp mustard
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp coconut oil
Method
Boil the quinoa according to the instructions on the packaging, then drain well. Drain the black beans and add them together with the quinoa to a food processor or blender. Place the mixture in a bowl.
Add all other ingredients to the bowl and mix well. Add extra oatmeal if the mixture is too moist. Then roll out six balls of the mixture and flatten them into burgers. Fry the burgers on both sides in a pan in coconut oil until crispy. You can eat the burger on a sandwich with toppings such as lettuce, avocado, tomato or you can serve the burgers with vegetables.
Tip: you can also replace the black beans with kidney beans or chickpeas.
