Warm oatmeal with stewed apple

The go-to breakfast of the fall and winter is hot oatmeal. It's warming, filling, and oats are full of fiber and B vitamins. Warm oatmeal with stewed apple is a healthy Ayurvedic breakfast. Ayurveda says, "you are what you consume" (instead of "you are what you eat"). Fruit can ferment in the stomach when combined with other foods, but by stewing the apple and combining it with spices and fat (coconut oil) can help digest it well.

Ingredients

  • 1 apple

  • 50 g or 6 tbsp oats

  • 120 ml of water or plantbased milk

  • 1 tsp coconut oil

  • Spices (cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, etc.)

  • Handful of raisins

  • Nut paste of your choice

  • 1 tsp honey or agave syrup

Preparation

Slowly cook the oatmeal in milk or water in a saucepan. You determine the thickness of the oatmeal yourself by adding more or less moisture.

Peel the apple and cut it into small pieces. Heat the coconut oil in another pan and fry the apples for a few minutes. Add the spices with the raisins and turn down the heat. Add a small layer of water and put the lid on the pan. This way the apple can stew for a few minutes.

Pour the oatmeal into a bowl and spoon over the apples with the liquid. Garnish with honey and a tablespoon of natural peanut butter or almond butter. Enjoy this lovely breakfast!
